I’ve been listening to Doves for so long and I never knew that the lead singer played bass for the band… after watching this live video of my favorite song of theirs “Snowden”, I love them even more (which I didn’t think could be possible).

According to Radiohead’s blog, Dead Air Space, Ed (guitarist) states that the band is in the studio and working on a new album. He states that they are continuing work that they started last Summer. There isn’t an expected release date but it is enough for me to know that they showed up to work and that things are going good.
From the Radiohead blog…
The vibe in the camp is fantastic at present, and we head off into the studio in January to continue on from the work we started last Summer .. I am so genuinely excited about what we’re doing, but for obvious reasons I can’t divulge anything more.. anyway we all love surprises don’t we? 10 years ago we were all collectively (that’s the band) in the land of Kid A .. and although hugely proud of that record, it wasn’t a fun place to be .. What’s reassuring now, is that we are most definitely a different band, which should therefore mean that the music is different too and that is the aim of the game….keep it moving.

Speaking of Art Garfunkel visiting the Kansas City Symphony, Kings of Convenience released a new album. Perfected production of recorded acoustic and vocal Kings of Convenience release their follow up to Riot on Empty Street, which sold over 400,000 in Europe, with the beautiful and hushed Declaration of Dependance.
I don’t think I’ve heard matched harmonies like Erlend Øye and Eirik Glambek Bøe since Simon and Garfunkel. If you are unfamiliar with the Kings they are like an indie Bossa nova band. Sounds boring? No its not, its beautiful music. While Riot on Empty Street had I’d Rather Dance With You (click to watch the video, its quite comical in a Napoleon Dynamite way), a perfectly fine song for a house dance party, Declaration of Dependance loses the drums and is a bit quieter, yes it’s possible. Go out and buy the album, its the best in its genre this year.
Listen to their single Mrs. Cold…

There really isn’t an official name for the style of music that is currently emerging out of bands like Neon Indian or recently reviewed Washed Out. It’s basically music that is synth-based, 80’s sentiment, psychedelic in nature and produced out of a basement studio.
One stand out is Deadbeat Summer that is super catchy with oohs and ahhs, synths lines and a laid back beat. As with most of these new dream-pop albums there is always a coming-of-age theme to them – wether or not the lyrics speak that, its the general feel I get from the album. Songs like 6669 has the back and forth kick snare beat that keeps the head moving side to side, Mind, Drips opens up with a space ship taking off that reminds me of some old Nintendo game and has a nice back beat groove. The album is short, only about 30 mins, but there is so many good songs that the album is sure not to disappoint any 80’s sentimental geek.

The band consists of Thom, obviously, Nigel Godrich (Radiohead’s producer), Joey Waronker (REM), Mauro Refosco (of David Bryne from Talking Heads) and Flea! Yes thats Flea from Red Hot Chili Peppers.

I’ve been in need of some tunes that I could design to and I think I found them in Washed Out. Usually when I’m designing or retouching a photograph my mind is going a million miles an hour. SO that means I need super chill music or else my brain will ’splode. Speaking of design I actually like the cover type and photograph on Life Of Leisure.
Anyway, so the music is kind of along the lines of Panda Bear but a little bit more consistent between each song. Have a listen yourself! Washed Out.

Online music review and music news website, PitchforkMedia.com, gets a facelift. While I have not completely gone through the entire redesign of the website I can say that I like how it is cleaner but for big changes like this to a website that I have come to know how to sift about it may take me a bit to really know how I like it.
What do you think?

According to E! Online, alt-country star Ryan Adams and pop artist Mandy Moore are engaged.
I am a little confused by this but I guess this makes sense considering he mentioned his ’stepping back’ from music. Apparently to make time for his new fiance!

Ryan Adams has announced via his blog that he is ’stepping back’ from music for awhile, stating that he has “a whole lot of living and learning to do”. He has officially quit his band ‘The Cardinals’ and his last show will be on March 20th in Atlanta.
This is the kind of thing I love about Ryan Adams. It’s ridiculous, so much drama it’s rock star. They say any press is good press and this is what makes Ryan Adams who he is. He is a alt-country rock star who could probably be compared to the modern likes of Jeff Tweedy, from Wilco, or Elliott Smith, in terms of how far reaching his style of music is, which is not very far. So in light of that it amazes me how much this guy makes his way in to press. This is what makes him a social genius.
I mean let’s take for example his ex-girlfriends… Parker Posey, Winona Ryder, Leona Naess, Beth Orton and model Jessica Joffe? What indie folk artist does that? Granted if his music did not back any of this up I would easily write him off but he has been pretty consistent. I admit as of late I have been let down but considering he has released nine actual LPs, has performed with the likes of Elton John and has produced an album for Willie Nelson within such a short span of time the man can create art.
So this leads us back to where we are now. Ryan Adams, stepping back from music. Well he obviously cannot quit music, he was born to do music. It is just apparent, from his recent sobriety, interning at a fashion magazine Blackbook, to finishing a book, he has been going through some major life changes and he probably would love to just sit and stare at his shoes, and I say ‘that’s OK’.
Good luck Ryan and will see or listen to you soon!

Oh my Lord I cannot wait for this new album to come out. Phoenix has partnered up again with producer Philippe Zdar who produced their first album “United!” which has one of my favorite song’s of theirs “Too Young” (which was featured on my favorite movie of all time “Lost in Translation”). SO hopefully this means the album’s direction may lean to more of their roots. I didn’t mind “It’s Never Been Like That” but it didn’t have the magic that the others had. I felt as if I heard that album already. Unlike “Alphabetical” or “United” they were a totally new experience for me!
Check out their website www.WeArePhoenix.com… there is a small little intro clip that I would assume be apart of their new album, and if so… I’m pumped!
