James Day Photography
Published on April 1st, 2009

Photographer James Day has a very striking portfolio. His photos are flooded with lighting and bleached out highlights – and that’s what caught my eye.
I initially discovered James Day by reading an interview in Wire Magazine between music artist then interviewer David Bryne, of the Talking Heads, and Thom Yorke of Radiohead and seeing his portrait work of the two.

18th and Baltimore
Published on January 17th, 2009

I had the opportunity to shoot in downtown Kansas City at an ‘ultra-modern’ loft near 18th and Baltimore. The interior was designed with all white appliance and cabinetry that made for a stark contrast between background and subject. I processed the file with a ‘bleach bypass’ to give it an even more clean feel. With the styling (Milly polo and skirt), make-up and hair it made for a very modern yet retro look. Check it out on Ryan Strong Photography.

12th Street by Cynthia Vincent

I had a photo shoot yesterday and came away with this shot. This was my first time working with a fan! It was pretty fun, and loud. This was taken in our photo studio and I used a combination of four lights. I had two large soft boxes left and right as kickers, one AB800 in a 22″ beauty dish that to camera right and up high, and then I had a ABR ringflash mounted on camera.

Ridiculous photography by William Hundley. I love the cheeseburger concept.

Amazing high fashion photography by Baldovino Barani! I’m shocked at how candid the setting looks but when you put in a high fashion model in there that’s been retouched and leave the background it makes things seem so surreal yet familiar.

Beautiful photography by Nick & Chloe. It has a serene timeless feel to it. I dig the ARGENTINA AVENUE series.

Juicy Couture for Men by Ryan Strong
Published on December 21st, 2008

Here’s one of my latest shots I took for Standard Style Boutique. It was freezing cold and they wanted to promote some new Juicy Couture hoodies and jackets so Jordan Johnson (model) and myself ventured out into the midwest snow.
I was pretty satisfied with the outcome. The biggest problem I had to overcome was to get a good shot without using any of my lighting gear – I could not use any of it because I would run the risk of them getting ruined in the snow. Anyway download this as a nice wintery wallpaper!

3.1 Phillip Lim and Elizabeth & James

Here’s a new photo that I took on Thursday, December 11 (click the image to see it larger). I wanted a very colorful and mod look to this shot. The collection being sold here is considering ‘resort’ fashion and is meant to be sold to those who will be vacationing this winter.

The white wall behind the model had been just painted. I spent a half day Wednesday painting it from a mint green to a white. I hope to be having a lot more shoots on a white background. There’s something about just a white background that makes a shot completely different, I like it.
